Anonym Craftsman Design
Minimalist Japanese bags, local artisanal manufacturing, no logo
Philosophy
To pass on the technique, experience, knowledge, and passion of underrated craftsmen to the future. Monozukuri philosophy, made in Japan, functional minimalist design. To advance together with craftsmanship.
History
Anonym Craftsman Design was born in Tokyo in the summer of 2009 under the umbrella of FEMME PLANNING Co., Ltd., which also operates sister brand beruf baggage, founded in 2006. The name says it all: "Anonym" celebrates anonymous craftsmen, the 名もなき職人 (nameless craftsmen) whose talent remains invisible behind the products they make. The founder, rooted in Tokyo's leather goods scene, rejected the cult of the designer in favor of a collective homage to craft.
Every bag is entirely designed and sewn in Japan by artisans specializing in bagmaking, working in trusted workshops selected for technical excellence. The process - pattern-making, cutting, sewing - remains handcrafted in a country where precision of gesture is elevated to art. Materials evolve with the seasons, blending technical canvas, Cordura nylons and Japanese leathers, but manufacturing stays strictly domestic.
The positioning is "comfortable casual": bags that serve daily urban life as naturally as outdoor escapes and travel. No ostentatious logos, no aggressive marketing. The brand sells primarily from its 1197 Store flagship, tucked in a Yoyogi back alley (1F shop, 2F office), shared with beruf baggage. Distribution also through ZOZOTOWN, select Japanese shops, and an international e-shop. In 2024, Carryology named it among the eight best small Japanese brands, praising an approach where "designs speak for themselves".
