History
Four co-founders, not two. In 2009, designers Andrew Fallshaw and Hadrien Monloup, joined by engineers Lina Calabria and Matthew Fallshaw (Andrew's brother), shared a common frustration: why are all wallets so thick and poorly designed? The name Bellroy fuses Bells Beach, the legendary surf spot on the Great Ocean Road, and Fitzroy, Melbourne's creative quarter where they set up offices.
First wallets launched in August 2010. The "slim your wallet" concept struck a nerve instantly. Bellroy didn't just sell an object, they sold a method: videos showing how to reduce wallet contents, guides on which cards to eliminate.
Growth was rapid. In 2019, New York fund Silas Capital invested, valuing Bellroy at $83 million. The brand became an official Apple supplier for MagSafe cases and accessories. Over 100 employees by 2023, B Corp certified, 1200 stockists worldwide.
But user feedback is more nuanced. the core wallet line holds up brilliantly, with 10-year Note Sleeves looking pristine. The bags and tech accessories added later for diversification are more uneven, with zipper and stitching failures reported. Manufacturing in China, India and Philippines at premium pricing remains debated. A textbook case in marketing and design, with a founding product that delivers and diversification that sometimes dilutes quality.

Note Sleeve
The wallet that launched the brand. Ultra-slim bifold design with a note section accessible without fully opening. It's often Bellroy's most defended product: 8 and 10-year reviews show leather that patinas without losing shape. The sweet spot between the Slim Sleeve's extreme minimalism and the Hide & Seek's capacity.
Transit Workpack
The 20L backpack that extended Bellroy beyond wallets. Dedicated laptop compartment, internal organization designed for the nomadic worker. Often praised for comfort even at 8-10 kg. The V2 fixes first-version shortcomings. Bellroy's most representative product in its carry diversification.
Hide & Seek
The dual-compartment bifold with a hidden section for reserve bills or an emergency card. More generous than the Note Sleeve, it stays surprisingly thin thanks to thinned leather construction. Popular with those wanting a slim wallet without sacrificing capacity. Five-year feedback is very positive on leather durability.
