Faithful reproductions of vintage American military clothing, manufactured in Japan.

🇯🇵 Japan, Tokyo Founded in 1993 $$$

Philosophy

Reproducing vintage American military garments with obsessive fidelity. Same fabrics, same stitching, same machinery when possible. Made in Japan by Toyo Enterprise. The reference standard for military reproduction, no compromises.

History

Buzz Rickson's is the Japanese obsession with Americana pushed to its apex. Founded in 1993 by Toyo Enterprise, the brand takes its name from Steve McQueen's character in "The War Lover" (1961). The mission: reproduce American military garments from the 1940s-1960s with a precision the original manufacturers probably didn't achieve themselves.

Toyo Enterprise is no newcomer. The parent company dates back to the postwar era, when it produced souvenirs for American soldiers stationed in Japan (the famous sukajan jackets). This proximity to American military surplus built an intimate knowledge of period materials and construction.

The level of detail is staggering. To reproduce an MA-1 or B-15 jacket, Buzz Rickson's acquires original pieces, completely deconstructs them, analyzes every component. They go as far as sourcing thread of the correct gauge, period-accurate zippers (Talon, Crown), faithful labels. Fabrics are often produced on vintage looms to respect the original texture.

Manufacturing is entirely Japanese, in specialized workshops. This is the fascinating paradox: the best reproductions of American military clothing are made in Japan. The main markets remain Japan and the United States, with a community of collectors and heritage clothing enthusiasts.

Buzz Rickson's is not independent - it is a brand within the Toyo Enterprise group, which also owns Sugar Cane, Sun Surf, and others. But in its field, nobody does it better. The price matches the level of research and manufacturing.
