Claude Dozorme

Le Thiers®, Laguiole and Capucin folding knives, bold, colourful French artisanal cutlery

🇫🇷 France, Thiers Founded in 1902 $$$

Philosophy

Cutlery doesn't have to be dull. Four generations of Dozormes proved it - from the founding Wolf to Claudine who brought color where there was only steel. Each knife is made in Thiers, certified Le Thiers®, and guaranteed not to end up at the bottom of a drawer.

History

Thiers, French capital of the knife. In 1902, Blaise Dozorme opens his workshop there. They call him 'The Wolf' - probably not for his gentleness. He forges knives in the Thiers tradition, one that dates back to the Middle Ages and made this Puy-de-Dôme town the French Sheffield. His son Valentin takes over in 1934. Then comes Claude, the grandson, in the 1970s. He gives his name to the house and modernizes the tools without betraying the craft. The real break comes with Claudine, the fourth generation. She takes over in 1991 and does what nobody had dared in traditional cutlery: color. Pink, electric blue, transparent plexiglass handles, designer collaborations. Thiers cutlery was austere, functional, masculine. Claudine makes it joyful. The knife leaves the kitchen drawer and enters the living room display case. In 2009, the company earns the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label. Recognition that boldness doesn't exclude artisanal rigor. The Palladuc workshop - 700 m², a few kilometers from Thiers - makes everything on site. Each knife passes through several artisans' hands: forging, grinding, assembly, polishing. An important detail: Claude Dozorme is one of the certified Le Thiers® manufacturers. Unlike Laguiole - whose name is protected by nothing and anyone can stamp on a Chinese knife - Le Thiers® is a registered trademark with strict specifications. When Dozorme puts 'Le Thiers®' on a knife, it means something. In 2022, the family hands over to Didier Perret, Arts & Métiers engineer. The EPV is maintained, the team stays, manufacturing doesn't leave Thiers. The next chapter is being written.

Iconic Products

Le Thiers®

The iconic Thiers folding knife. Registered trademark with strict specifications - unlike Laguiole, here the name is protected. Stainless or carbon blade, handles in precious wood, horn, bone or colored plexiglass. The object that sums up the house: rigorous tradition, unexpected look.

Laguiole par Dozorme

The Dozorme Laguiole. Same traditional shape, but made in Thiers - not in a Chinese container. Forged bee, chiseled spring, handles ranging from classic to frankly bold. For those who want a real Laguiole without playing origin roulette.

Le Capucin

The historic Thiers pocket knife. Simple shape, wooden handle, ferrule blade. The ancestor of the French folding knife - the one grandfathers pulled out to cut bread. Dozorme still makes it, and still by hand.
