Philosophy

The English weave, the French cut. Since 1842, Dormeuil has been bridging the two traditions. Seven generations later, the thread remains unbroken.

History

1842. Jules Dormeuil, 22, starts importing English fabrics to Paris - the finest wools from Huddersfield and Yorkshire for Parisian tailors. The English know how to weave, the French know how to cut.

By the early 20th century, Dormeuil supplies the reference tailors of Place de l'Opéra and Savile Row. The house buys its own looms in England. Not an importer - a producer.

Each generation takes over. Dormeuil fabrics become synonymous with discreet luxury: super 100's to super 250's, cashmere, vicuña. In 1970, Dormeuil launches Tonik - a mohair fabric that makes suits shine. It becomes iconic.

In 2002, the seventh generation launches Dormeuil RTW. Dominic Dormeuil leads today. Fabrics still woven in England's finest Huddersfield mills. 183 years. Seven generations. Same family. Same craft.
