Edwin Europe ⚠️ With reservations

Licensed streetwear denim, made in Tunisia by Carhartt WIP

🇩🇪 Germany, Weil am Rhein Founded in 1989 $$

Edwin Europe is operated under license by Work In Progress (Carhartt WIP), not Edwin Japan. Manufacturing mainly in Tunisia. Quality is a notch below MIJ. Only explicitly 'Made in Japan' models offer real Edwin Japanese denim.

Philosophy

European license of the Edwin brand, operated by Carhartt WIP's parent company. Made in Tunisia. Streetwear positioning, not purist denim.

History

Let's be clear: Edwin Europe is NOT a subsidiary of Edwin Japan. It's a license, operated by Work In Progress GmbH, the German company based in Weil am Rhein that also runs Carhartt WIP. Same address, same management, same factories.

Manufacturing is mainly in Tunisia, in the same workshops producing Carhartt WIP. It's decent denim, honest for the price, but a notch below what Edwin Japan does with its 13-15 integrated factories and Kaihara/Kurabo weavers. Same name, same logo, different product.

Some Edwin Europe models stamped "Made in Japan" use real Japanese selvedge. Those are in a different category. But they're a fraction of the range. The majority comes from Tunisian workshops. Positioning is streetweales passionnés rather than purist denim.

Iconic Products

Edwin ED-55

Regular tapered fit, flagship European model. Note: check manufacturing origin (MIJ vs Tunisia).

Edwin ED-80

Slim tapered fit. Stretch denim for the European market. Tunisian manufacturing.

Edwin Made in Japan Selvedge

The capsule line using real Japanese-woven selvedge. The only segment of the Europe range approaching the Edwin Japan product. Higher price than the rest (200-250 euros), but this is where the Edwin name truly means something.
