Japanese technical bags, 915D Cordura, each collection inspired by a country

🇯🇵 Japan, Tokyo Founded in 2010 $$

Philosophy

Japanese urban carry. Sleek aesthetics with vintage alpine influences. 915D Cordura construction.

History

Satoshi Yamane runs the Root General Store in Tokyo and plays bass in Toe, a cult post-rock band in Japan. Two lives with nothing in common, except they do.

In 2010, he launches F/CE. with an idea unlike anything else: each collection is inspired by a different country. He travels, absorbs, and translates his experiences into bags and clothing. Nepal gives one collection, Peru another, Iceland a third. It's design as travel journal.

The materials are serious: 915D Cordura, recycled ECOPAK, construction that borrows from vintage alpine bags but with meticulous Japanese finishing. Made in Japan, not Vietnam, not China.

Among enthusiasts, a user comparing F/CE. to Indispensable guesses 'the F/CE. backpack would be better quality but it looks too stiff.' Carryology ranks the brand among must-know Japanese labels. Eye C Magazine covers them regularly.

Virtually unknown outside Japan and the bag nerd community, it's exactly the kind of find we love unearthing, a musician-creative making technical bags with a traveler's soul. The kind of brand you discover and keep to yourself.

FCE is Japan's answer to Gore-Tex: an in-house developed waterproof fabric with obsessive attention to construction details, heat-sealed seams, waterproof zips, ventilated compartments. But where Gore-Tex is an industrial standard, FCE is an aesthetic choice: bags and jackets have an architectural minimalism closer to interior design than outdoor gear.

Production is confidential, small runs, selective distribution, nearly impossible to find outside Japan. The kind of brand you discover in Harajuku and can't find anywhere else.
