Finisterre

Surf outdoor clothing, B Corp certified, Cornwall since 2003

🇬🇧 United Kingdom, St Agnes Founded in 2003 $$

Philosophy

British coastal outdoor brand. Sustainable, quiet design. B Corp certified. Surf and cold-water focus.

History

Tom Kay surfs in Cornwall. The water is 10 degrees, the wind is blowing, and the available surf gear is either ugly, unethical, or both.

In 2003, from a flat above a surf shop in St Agnes, he creates Finisterre, named after the Spanish cape, one of the most brutal headlands in the North Atlantic. His first piece: a fleece to warm up after cold water sessions.

Among enthusiasts, reviews are glowing: '10/10' quality, excellent fit. A enthusiasts user sums it up: 'designed and made incredibly well.' The kind of brand where customers become ambassadors without being asked.

B Corp certified, Finisterre follows through on sustainability. Repair program, secondhand platform, recycled and bio-sourced materials. Regularly mentioned alongside Patagonia as a benchmark sustainable brand, but with a Cornish accent rather than Californian.

Finisterre bottles Cornwall, the ocean, the cliffs, the wind, with a conscience. No greenwashing, no hollow marketing. The brand owns its niche: technical clothing for people who go out in cold water and wind, not for people posing on Instagram.

Watch out for scam sites imitating the brand, Finisterre themselves warn about this on specialist forums. The price of success.

The business model is transparent: Finisterre publishes production costs and margins for each product. That's rare in the textile industry, even Patagonia doesn't go that far. The customer base is loyal and engaged: surfers, coastal walkers, people who live outside and accept paying more for durability. Not greenwashing, lived-in sustainability.

Iconic Products

Nieuwland Wetsuit

Finisterre's eco-responsible wetsuit. Limestone neoprene (no petroleum), glued and blind-stitched seams, developed for Cornwall's cold waters. The product that proves Finisterre isn't just a pretty fleece brand, it's real surf gear for harsh conditions.

Halen Fleece

The signature fleece, the one that started it all. Recycled, comfortable, made to warm up after getting out of the water. Fitted cut, not the potato-sack look of classic outdoor fleeces. 애호가들: '10/10 quality.' The garment that sums up Finisterre in one word: honest.

Rainbird Jacket

The technical raincoat, lightweight, packable, designed for the permanent Cornish drizzle. Breathable membrane, sealed seams, understated design. The kind of jacket you forget you're wearing until rain comes, and then you understand why you bought it.
