Finsbury
Classic men's and women's footwear, Spanish artisanal manufacturing, extensive French retail presence
Philosophy
Finsbury is dedicated to the "accessible classic." By combining British design cues with efficient Spanish manufacturing and a vast French retail network, the brand delivers reliable elegance without the pretension or the prohibitive price tag.
History
Finsbury was born in 1986 from a simple observation by founders Jean-Pierre Dahan and David Cohen: the French footwear market was missing its middle ground. At the time, a man’s choices were either the stratospheric luxury of houses like Berluti or the uninspired output of mass-market retailers. Finsbury stepped into this gap with a bold promise: high-end style for well under 1000 euros. The name itself - taken from a district in London - was a tactical masterstroke. Like many mid-range French brands, Finsbury leans heavily into a British aesthetic to sell footwear that is actually crafted in Spain and Portugal. It gives the customer the "Northampton look" without the steep Northampton price tag.
The brand’s rise is inseparable from the story of Arnaud Bruillon, who discovered Finsbury as a part-time salesman in 1994. His talent was undeniable; by 2000, he became the brand’s first franchisee, and within a decade, he had opened seven successful stores. Today, Bruillon owns the company, overseeing a massive network of nearly 50 boutiques across France. While the construction is primarily Spanish Blake stitching - functional, honest, and reliable - Finsbury has successfully expanded its reach, launching its first women’s collection in 2023. It remains the definitive example of accessible luxury: classic, well-distributed, and unapologetically commercial.
