Frost River

Thick waxed canvas bags, zero plastic, Duluth, Minnesota

🇺🇸 United States, Duluth Founded in 2001 $$

Philosophy

Frost River builds bags and packs in the tradition of Northern canoe-campers. Thick waxed canvas, harness leather, reinforced stitching, objects designed to be passed to the next generation, not to follow a trend.

History

Duluth, Minnesota, 2001. The Great Lakes city, boreal forest, biting cold. Frost River sets up shop here, two steps from Duluth Pack, its historical rival. Two waxed canvas bag makers in the same small northern town.

Materials are American to the point of obsession. Martexin Original waxed canvas, made in the USA since 1838. SB Foot Tannery leather from Red Wing, Minnesota. Solid brass hardware. Zero plastic. When Frost River says "Made in USA," it's the complete chain.

Among enthusiasts, Frost River became a reference. "As good as it gets" sums up the consensus. The Isle Royale Bushcraft Pack is the cult model. The comparison with Duluth Pack is inevitable: Frost River has better value and more modern designs, Duluth Pack has the heritage (founded 1882).
