Philosophy

Manufacture founded in 1842 by an American who fell in love with Limoges kaolin. 180 years of exceptional porcelain, White House supplier, EPV-labeled. Acquired by Bernardaud in 2024, the two historic houses unite their expertise.

History

David Haviland, a New York porcelain importer, settles in Limoges in 1842 with a simple insight: the American market wants different designs. He founds his manufacture, producing with Limoges kaolin and local expertise but for American taste.

Success is spectacular. In 1861, Haviland produces the "solferino" service for Abraham Lincoln's White House. Services for Grant, Hayes, Harrison follow. Haviland becomes the porcelain maker of American presidents, and also serves Empress Eugénie and Prince Rainier.

Then the family saga fractures: Charles Field Haviland splits off, Robert Haviland creates his own branch. A century of schisms. In December 2024, historic rival Bernardaud acquires Haviland. Two hundred years of Limoges competition ending in merger. The future as a distinct brand remains unclear. What's indisputable: vintage Haviland is among the world's most collected porcelain.
