In 1952, in the small town of Campodarsego, a few kilometers from Padua, two friends shared an obsession: why were professional kitchens reserved for restaurants? Eugenio Illotti and Mariano Vassallo founded ILVE - an acronym for Industria Lavorazione Veneta Elettrodomestici - with a simple yet ambitious idea: to offer Italian homes the power and precision of a chef's range.

The Campodarsego workshop grew without ever leaving Veneto. Each range is assembled by hand, piece by piece. Solid brass burners, chosen for their thermal conductivity and wear resistance, became the brand's technical signature. This isn't decoration: it's professional equipment in a domestic setting.

But what truly distinguished ILVE in the landscape of kitchen manufacturers was color. Over 200 shades in the catalog. Bordeaux Red, Midnight Blue, Sage Green, Tuscan Yellow - each range could be customized to fit any interior. The Nostalgie range, with its retro lines and brass or chrome finishes, transformed a household appliance into a piece of furniture. Italy loves beauty, even in its kitchens.

For decades, ILVE built its reputation on this triptych: professional performance, artisanal craftsmanship, uncompromising aesthetics. The ranges traveled from Campodarsego to Australia, the United States, Japan. The brand remained discreet but respected, an insider's choice for those who wanted something other than an anonymous stainless steel block.

Then came 2019. Middleby Corporation, an American conglomerate specializing in foodservice equipment, acquired ILVE. The group already owned AGA, Falcon, Viking - prestigious names whose post-acquisition trajectory hadn't always been glorious. The pattern repeated itself: the ranges remained beautiful, the assembly remained Italian, but user feedback changed tone. Faulty thermocouples, capricious ignition modules, electrical failures within the first months of use. And above all, after-sales service became ghostly, particularly in the United States.

ILVE's story is that of a Venetian artisan who proved that beauty and performance could coexist in a kitchen. What remains to be proven is whether this high standard survives the logic of an industrial conglomerate.
