Magico

High-fidelity speakers - pure engineering, CNC aluminum enclosures and proprietary drivers, 100% Hayward CA

Philosophy

Magico is the antithesis of the audio conglomerate. Alon Wolf, an engineer by training, rejects wood (resonant) in favor of aerospace aluminum 6061-T6 and carbon (inert). Sealed enclosures exclusively, measurements and science before subjective impressions. Each speaker individually measured. The perfect speaker adds nothing to the signal.

History

Hayward, California, 2004. Alon Wolf is an engineer. He is convinced that the world of high-end audio is fundamentally mistaken on one point: wood. Wood resonates. A resonating speaker cabinet adds parasitic frequencies to the signal. The perfect speaker is one that adds nothing.

Wolf chooses aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminum. Inert, rigid, measurable. The cabinets are CNC-machined in his 2,800 m² factory in Hayward. The drivers are proprietary - designed and manufactured in-house. Exclusively sealed enclosure (no bass-reflex, no port). 26 employees. Each speaker is individually measured before shipping.

The first model is called Mini. The Q series breaks into the high-end market around 2008. The all-aluminum S series arrives around 2013. The A series makes Magico "accessible" - at 9,400 dollars. The M series goes up to 750,000 dollars a pair. Three-quarters of a million for speakers.

This is the pure scientific approach. Measurements before subjectivity. No "tweaking by ear", no "musicality" as a marketing argument. Numbers, specs, materials. Objectivist audiophiles love it. Subjectivists find it cold.

In 2024, Alon Wolf is inducted into The Absolute Sound (TAS) Hall of Fame. Twenty years after its founding, Magico has become one of the world's benchmarks in high-end loudspeakers. Still independent, still in Hayward, still 26 employees machining aerospace aluminum.

Iconic Products

A3

Magico's entry level. 'Accessible' at $9,400. CNC aluminum enclosure, proprietary drivers, sealed. The speaker to discover the Magico approach without mortgaging the apartment. The minimum Wolf considers acceptable.

S3 Mk II

Mid-range in full aluminum and carbon. The S series is Magico's heart: best performance-price balance. Enclosure that doesn't vibrate, adds nothing, lets the signal pass. Reviewers speak of 'absolute transparency.' That's a compliment at Magico.

M6

The flagship. Ultimate carbon and aluminum construction. Up to $750,000 per pair. The no-compromise speaker for people without budget constraints. Every parameter optimized to measurable maximum. The culmination of Wolf's philosophy: science serving sound, not the reverse.
