master-piece
Japanese technical bags, own factories in Osaka and Toyoka since 1994
Philosophy
Technical performance meets bold Japanese aesthetics. By maintaining our own BASE factories in Osaka and Toyoka since 2008, we ensure that every bag is a masterpiece of integrated production - built to be beautiful, durable, and uncompromisingly Japanese.
History
Founded in Osaka in 1994 by Taichi Fujimatsu, master-piece was born from a singular conviction: that a bag can be both aesthetically striking and practically indestructible. While much of the Japanese fashion world prioritizes minimalism, master-piece embraces a "more is more" approach to technical performance and material variety, blending suede, full-grain leather, and high-density Cordura nylon into a bold, unmistakably Japanese aesthetic.
The brand's most critical turning point came in 2008. While competitors were aggressively offshoring production to China and Southeast Asia to cut costs, Fujimatsu did the exact opposite. He opened his own BASE factories in Osaka and Toyoka - the historical heart of Japanese bag making in Hyogo Prefecture. This commitment to vertical integration and local craftsmanship was economically risky but ensured total control over quality. On forums like les passionnés, the verdict is unanimous: master-piece is frequently ranked alongside the legendary Porter-Yoshida, the ultimate mark of respect in Japan.
Recent expansions into luggage in 2025 have drawn some criticism for potentially lower outsourced quality, but the core collection of backpacks, briefcases, and sacoches remains world-class. Each piece is characterized by heavy metal hardware and meticulous stitching that stands up to the rigors of daily commuting. For those who want Japanese precision without the mandatory quietness of other brands, master-piece offers a loud, durable, and technically superior alternative.
