Muuto
Contemporary Scandinavian furniture, young Nordic designers, Copenhagen
Muuto was acquired by Knoll in 2018, now part of the MillerKnoll group (publicly traded). Leadership remains Danish and identity preserved, but the brand is no longer independent.
Philosophy
Contemporary Scandinavian design since 2006. Young Nordic designers, clean and warm aesthetic. Acquired by MillerKnoll in 2018.
History
Copenhagen, 2006. Peter Bonnen and Kristian Byrge. Muuto, from Finnish 'muutos' - new perspective. Warmer Scandinavian design, colors and textures that classic Nordic minimalism forbids itself.
Young Nordic designers: Cecilie Manz, Anderssen & Voll, TAF Studio. Fiber Chair everywhere. Leaf sconce too. In 2018, Knoll acquires Muuto. Knoll merges with Herman Miller: MillerKnoll. Danish leadership preserved. But Muuto is now a subsidiary of a group managing Herman Miller, Knoll, HAY, Design Within Reach. Identity survives for a while. Then catalogs merge.
