Philosophy

Pelikan is one of Europe's greatest writing houses with nearly 200 years of history. The differential piston filling system, patented in 1929, is a Pelikan invention. Souveran 18K gold nibs are renowned for their exceptional smoothness (butter-smooth). The pelican feeding its young logo is one of the oldest brand logos in the world.

History

Hanover, 1838. Carl Hornemann opens an ink factory. In 1871, Gunther Wagner adopts the pelican logo - one of the world's oldest brand marks. 1929: the differential piston patent changes everything.

The Souveran is the iconic pen. Striped barrel, 18K gold nib, differential piston. Writing smoothness is legendary: among enthusiasts, 'butter-smooth' means Pelikan. M800 is the perfect size. M1000 the flagship. Toledo is art.

But. 1996: Goodace SDN BHD (Malaysia) acquires Pelikan. Premium lines still made at Vohrum. But prices exploded. QC became inconsistent - 'baby's bottom' on new nibs is a recurring les passionnés topic. Users report returning 2-3 nibs before getting a good one. Vintage Pelikans often preferred over new. The tragedy of a bicentennial house.

Iconic Products

Souveran M800

The classic. 18K gold nib, differential piston, translucent stripes. The size the community considers perfect. The 'butter-smooth' writing that made the legend. When QC is good, one of the best fountain pens in the world. When it isn't, 700 euros of frustration.

Souveran M1000

The flagship. Massive 18K gold nib, largest Souveran. For large hands and those wanting the softest nib in the range. The M1000 is the Pelikan for people who find the M800 too reasonable.

Toledo M700

Damascened gold decoration. An artisan hand-engraves patterns on the pen body, then gold is inlaid in the grooves. Goldsmithing, not stationery. The Toledo is the art piece of the range - the pen you inherit.
