Peter Nitz
Bespoke leather goods, saddle-stitched, artisan training
Saddle-stitching leather artisan in Zurich, full bespoke. Respected by peers and the specialist forums community as one of the best in the world. Also a teacher - passes on his craft through masterclasses.
Philosophy
Nitz doesn't aspire to become a brand. He aspires to make bags. He teaches his craft in masterclasses, does full bespoke, and launched a small ready-to-wear line. The workshop stays small. That's the point.
History
Peter Nitz opened his workshop in Zurich in 2009. No big house behind him, no investment fund, no brand strategy. Just a craftsman who knows saddle stitching and decided to make a living from it.
Bespoke at Nitz is the real thing. The client comes to the workshop, chooses the leather, discusses shape, dimensions, finishes. The piece is built for them, hand-stitched start to finish. Prices start around $4,000 for a made-to-measure bag. Expensive, but it's the price of an object made by one man, not a production line.
On specialist forums, connoisseurs rank him without hesitation among the world's best leather artisans. One enthusiasts user: "huge fan of his techniques". Another: "very well regarded by other artisans". Not marketing hype - peer recognition.
Nitz also teaches. He runs leather-working masterclasses in his Zurich workshop, open to amateurs and professionals. Days in the workshop, hands in leather, with the master correcting and explaining.
Recently, he launched a ready-to-wear line. Same build quality, same leathers, but pre-defined models in small runs. The workshop stays small. Nitz doesn't aspire to become a brand. He aspires to make bags. The distinction matters.
