Philosophy

Since 1953, our family-owned workshop has been the sanctuary for Hans J. Wegner’s most challenging designs. We believe that a chair is not just furniture, but a sculptural dialogue between the artisan and the wood. Our commitment is to preserve the integrity of Wegner’s vision through uncompromising hand-craftsmanship.

History

In 1953, Ejner Pedersen established a small cabinetmaking workshop in Allerød, north of Copenhagen. While the workshop originally produced custom furniture, its trajectory was forever changed by a meeting with the legendary Hans J. Wegner. By then, Wegner was already world-renowned as a master of chair design, having seen his 'Round Chair' grace the cover of Interiors magazine in 1950. Yet, Wegner's most ambitious visions demanded a level of craftsmanship that few industrial factories could provide. In the Pedersen family, he found the mastery of solid wood and the uncompromising spirit he required to realize his sculptural designs. This collaboration birthed some of the 20th century’s most iconic pieces of furniture. The Peacock Chair (PP550), with its sweeping backrest, requires extreme precision in steam-bending and joinery. The Flag Halyard Chair (PP225), a sculptural masterpiece with its steel frame and flag-line seat, challenged every convention of the era. The Bear Chair (PP19), beloved for its playful armrests, perfectly balanced comfort with Wegner's distinct aesthetic. Following Wegner’s passing in 2007, PP Møbler has remained the faithful guardian of his legacy. Every chair is still produced in the Allerød workshop by a team of roughly twenty master artisans. From the selection of ash, oak, and walnut to the final hand-finishing, the techniques remain exactly as Wegner validated them seven decades ago. Each piece is signed and numbered, standing as a testament to the purest form of Danish design.
