In 2010, Brad Adams owned only a domestic sewing machine and an obsession: riding through Los Angeles. He didn't ride a carbon bike with clip-in shoes; he rode a fixie, in jeans, with a messenger bag that wouldn't stay put. The problem was the bag - none of them felt quite right. So, he decided to sew his own.

This was the founding moment of Road Runner Bags. It was a simple, almost ordinary act, similar to the start of dozens of other American artisanal brands. However, Brad didn't stop at the prototype. Ester Song soon joined him. Having sewn since childhood, she knew how to structure production without losing the handmade soul. Together, they established their workshop in Downtown LA, in a building recognizable among a thousand: painted with a zebra pattern and standing amidst concrete and California palms.

The philosophy is summed up in three words Brad often repeats: "Butts on the bike." In other words, nothing is designed from behind a desk. Every product is born from a real need identified during a ride, a commute, or a bikepacking trip. The founders ride, test, correct, and then repeat. This is a luxury that few luggage brands can honestly claim.

The catalog is built around two worlds. On one side is pure bikepacking: handlebar bags, frame bags, and saddle bags made of 1000D Cordura with waterproof vinyl liners. The Jumbo Jammer, their oversized handlebar bag, has become a reference for long-distance adventures. On the other side is the city: colorful messengers and technical backpacks designed for multimodal bike-train transport. The colors are bold, sometimes loud, and always unapologetic.

This is where Road Runner divides opinion. On the bike, the gear is impeccable. The Cordura handles everything, the stitching holds, and the design is conceived by people who actually ride. In the city, for daily use, the hardware components - straps and plastic buckles - don't always live up to the asking price. The contrast between textile quality and accessory finishing remains the brand's recurring weakness.

More than 300,000 pieces have left the Downtown LA workshop. Everything is cut and sewn on-site, and local orders are still delivered to the post office by cargo bike. This detail says it all: it's not marketing; it's just how they work. Road Runner embodies a certain idea of American manufacturing: small-scale, real-world use, and improbable colors. It’s the kind of brand that doesn't try to please everyone, and that's precisely what makes it endearing.
