Philosophy

Antti Rönkkö makes each watch by hand in Finnish silence - that deep cultural concept where thought and creation are born from stillness. No idle talk, no flashy marketing, no series production. Every timepiece is designed, machined and assembled by one man. Dials are engraved with patterns inspired by the Kalevala (the Finnish national epic), ancient labyrinths and Nordic myths. Steel cases are faceted like eagle talons, alternating satin and mirror polish. A Finnish proverb sums up the philosophy - Hiljaa hyvä tulee - the secret to greatness is born from silence.

History

Antti Rönkkö starts watchmaking with a simple ambition - to design and make his own watches. Modern mechanics don't satisfy him, too standardised, too impersonal. He founds Rönkkö Watches in 2012 in Espoo, Finland, developing a unique aesthetic universe rooted in Finnish mythology.

His collections carry names from the Kalevala and Nordic mythology. The Steel Labyrinth explores ancient labyrinth patterns. The Minotaur blends Greek myth with Nordic aesthetics. The Väinämöinen pays homage to the wise hero of the Kalevala. The Jatulis series draws from Finland's legendary stone gardens.

His latest model, the Son of Tuoni (2026), descends into the Kalevala underworld. Tuonen Poika, the Son of Death, guards the black river of Tuonela. The 41.9mm case is inspired by Kokko, the fire eagle. The rotating dial engraved with the Jatuls' Garden pattern integrates a moon phase. Modified Soprod A10 calibre, Ukonvasara-shaped rotor (hammer of Ukko, god of thunder). Prices from €12,700.
