Philosophy

Small family workshop in Budapest. Sandor Rozsnyai does RTW, MTO and full bespoke, with over 100 leathers available. Shell cordovan, stingray, bicolor patinas - nothing is refused. Hungarian craftsmanship at Hungarian prices.

History

Sándor Rozsnyai studied leather chemistry in 1970, then earned a technical shoe engineering diploma from the Budapest Technical College in 1975. In 1980, he founded La-Belly Ltd, a company that produced fashion shoes, bespoke footwear, and theatrical shoes for Hungarian theaters. For two decades, he honed his expertise alongside a specialization in orthopedic footwear, which is still produced today.

In 2002, building on this accumulated technical mastery, Sándor launched a line of high-end handmade classic shoes. The concept: to combine Italian-influenced design with Hungarian shoemaking tradition, featuring impeccable Goodyear welt construction. The house's Budapest lasts, with their floral toes and traditional broguing, became the workshop's signature. In 2011, the workshop-boutique opened its doors in Budapest, accessible to the public.

The offering is astounding. More than 100 leather options: shell cordovan from Horween, Shinki, or Comipel, stingray, hand-painted two-tone patinas crafted in the workshop. The MTO process is meticulously precise: measuring foam sent to the client, foot impressions, trial shoe, adjustments, then final production. Total customization is included in the price, without extra cost.

Recently, Rozsnyai abandoned ready-to-wear to focus exclusively on MTO and bespoke. A radical choice that speaks volumes about their trajectory: less volume, more precision. The second generation is active in the company. The orthopedic expertise, inherited from the early years, enhances the precision of the fit - an advantage few shoemakers can claim.

Shoe enthusiasts are unanimous: impeccable finishes, precise fit, remarkable leathers. Comparisons often arise with much more expensive houses, and Rozsnyai holds its own at a fraction of the price. Customer service is described as highly responsive and personalized. The only recurring criticism concerns the brand's excessive discretion: little online presence, no marketing, which makes discovery difficult for the uninitiated. The Budapest boutique has become a pilgrimage destination for enthusiasts visiting the city.
