Philosophy

English artisanal clothing brand founded in 2009. Exclusively British fabrics, made in English workshops. Founders Savile Row trained.

History

Sara Elizabeth Helen Kelly - the three initials that give the brand its name - trained at the London College of Fashion before spending five years at Hardy Amies on Savile Row. It was there that she learned cutting, structure, and the demand for detail. It was also where she met Paul Vincent, who would take charge of communication and strategy.

In 2009, they founded S.E.H Kelly with an absolute rule: every garment would be made exclusively from British fabrics and manufactured in the United Kingdom. Tweeds from Yorkshire, Ventile from Lancashire, wools from the Scottish Borders, and Irish linen. No compromises, no imports. The style can be summarized in one formula: Savile Row meets countryside. Structured yet functional cuts, no visible logo, where everything depends on the hand of the fabric.

Their headquarters settled at 1 Cleve Workshops, Boundary Street, in a Grade II listed building dating from 1895, in the heart of Shoreditch. No stockists, direct sales only. The workshop has no fixed hours: if the light is on, you are welcome.

Ventile, an ultra-dense cotton developed during the Second World War for RAF pilots, became the signature material. Waterproof without a synthetic membrane, breathable, and almost indestructible. The Tour Jacket, a short work jacket cut from this fabric, established itself as the emblematic piece. The Proper Trouser in heavy wool and the Peacoat in thick Ventile complete a deliberately restricted range. Each piece is designed to last and develop a patina over time.

The obsession with local sourcing extends to the buttons. When James Grove & Sons, the last horn button manufacturer in the West Midlands, closed in 2012, the brand turned to Courtney & Co in the Cotswolds, which took over the machines and archives to save this craftsmanship. Partner workshops are small British manufacturers, often family-run: a dedicated shirtmaker, a workshop for jackets, and hand-knitting in the islands.

Paul Vincent orchestrated communication with a transparency rare in the industry. For over ten years, he shared the smallest details of production online and on StyleForum: fabric weights, types of stitching, and fiber origins. S.E.H Kelly became a cult brand, unanimously praised by the enthusiast community. No advertising, ever. Word-of-mouth is enough.

Paul passed away in the summer of 2025. Sara continues alone, faithful to the same high standards. She encourages "repair and re-wear," focusing on restoration rather than replacement. An S.E.H Kelly garment is made to endure through the years. It is perhaps the most honest definition of luxury.
