Shimoda
Modular camera bags, heavy load carrying comfort, Boulder since 2016
Philosophy
Shimoda designs technical bags for adventurers and outdoor professionals. Specializing in robust carry solutions for extreme conditions, the brand develops modular backpacks built for hiking, trekking and expeditions. Impeccable organization, ultra-durable materials, comfort even when fully loaded, Shimoda is for those who take their gear where others stop.
History
The name Shimoda comes from a Japanese surf town where Ian Millar took the photo that became the brand's logo. Ian has 25 years of adventure camera bag design, including years as lead designer at f-stop. When he launched Shimoda in 2016 in Boulder with Peter Waisnor, he knew exactly what outdoor photographers wanted - because he is one. Among enthusiasts, the verdict is clear: 'far and away more comfortable from a design perspective' than Peak Design when carrying heavy loads. The V2 integrated support for the PD Capture Clip - proof the team listens to its community. The bags are heavy empty, that's the only recurring complaint. But loaded at 15 kg on a mountain trail, that's where Shimoda crushes the competition.
