SUAVS
Lightweight, breathable, machine-washable shoes, ideal for travel and sockless wear.
SUAVS excel in comfort and travel convenience, but their thin sole and lack of structure make them unsuitable for heavy or long-term rugged use. Expect immediate comfort, but not bulletproof durability.
Philosophy
Live freely, be ready for anything. Simple, smart design for effortless comfort and versatility.
History
Monxi Garza was a footwear designer in Vigo, on the coast of Galicia, when the idea took root. Her daily walking commute between the studio and the city drove home a simple truth: no shoe combined comfort, packability, and decent style. Sneakers were too bulky for a suitcase, flats wrecked her feet, loafers lacked structure. Garza decided to solve the problem herself.
After over a year of research, sketching and prototyping, she created SUAVS - a blend of "suave," meaning soft in Spanish and sophisticated in English. The concept: a 3D-knit mesh shoe, machine washable, foldable flat into luggage, designed for sockless wear without blistering. Materials are tested for softness and chemical safety, microfiber insoles wick moisture.
Garza moved to Austin, Texas, and launched a Kickstarter campaign that hit 400% of its goal. The success funded the Lace Up collection beyond the original slip-on. The Zilker, named after Austin's iconic park, became the flagship model. SUAVS grew direct-to-consumer, without distribution networks. The range expanded with the Legacy (high-top), Barton (loafer) and Eddy (slide). Uppers shifted to recycled thread from post-consumer plastics. Functional footwear, not haute couture - honest about what it is.
Iconic Products
The Zilker Knit
The most popular model, a breathable knit slip-on. Users praise its immediate comfort and lightweight feel, perfect for travel and sockless wear. However, the sole is often described as thin, lacking support for long walks, and some report sizing issues or heel slippage.
The Barton Slip-on
Described as a dressier slip-on with a strap across the top, the Barton aims for a sleeker, work-appropriate appearance. It shares the brand's comfort and breathability features, but the same reservations regarding sole durability and support apply.
