Philosophy
Flagship denim brand of Toyo Enterprise, Japanese vintage reproduction giant. Faithful reproductions of 1920s-1960s American workwear. Unique denims blended with sugar cane fibers. Woven on vintage shuttle looms in Okayama.
History
Toyo Enterprise, founded 1965 by Susumu Kobayashi, made clothes for American military bases in Japan. After Vietnam, pivoted to reproducing classic American workwear. Sugar Cane launched 1975 as Toyo's flagship denim brand.
Specialty: 50/50 denim (50% cotton, 50% sugar cane fibers). Unique texture, different fades. Killer details: fabric pocket bags, lined back pockets, quality hardware. Toyo also owns Buzz Rickson's (militaria) and Sun Surf (aloha shirts).
On enthusiasts: 'incredible price/quality if buying from Japan,' 'handles mass production but does it well.' No own website - sold through Toyo Enterprise and specialty retailers.
