Philosophy

Swiss premium home appliances founded in 1913 in Zug. 100% manufactured in Switzerland, minimalist design, cutting-edge technology. Listed on SIX since 2020. The absolute Swiss standard.

History

Zoug, 1913. Verzinkerei Zug AG – literally, the Zoug galvanising plant – was founded to galvanise metal and produce household goods. From 1915, it launched the ZUGer Waschherd, a wood-burning stove for heating laundry water that became indispensable in Swiss homes. In 1929, the first washing machines. In 1950, the Unimatic, the first Swiss automatic washing machine. 1959, the first tumble dryer. 1962, the first automatic dishwasher, named Adora – a name still in the catalogue today.

In 1976, a merger with Metallwarenfabrik Zug (founded in 1887) formed V-ZUG AG. In 1979, V-ZUG was the first manufacturer to equip its appliances with fully electronic controls. Today, it is the only home appliance manufacturer to produce 100% in Switzerland – washing machines, tumble dryers, ovens, dishwashers, cooktops, all from the Zoug factory. In June 2020, it was listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, confirming its independence from the Metall Zug Group.

But Swiss premium also has its dark side. In 2024, Kassensturz (SRF) revealed that new dishwashers lock programmes behind a CHF 12/year subscription – "subscriptionisation" for functions already integrated into the hardware. In 2025, it happened again: a fridge light bulb billed at over CHF 50, and a customer whose service subscription continued for a machine no longer in use. Manufacturing remains impeccable. Commercial practices, much less so.
