Velasca
Italian direct-to-consumer shoes, casual-chic style, Milan
⚠️ Velasca is a lifestyle-oriented direct-to-consumer brand. Construction varies by model: Blake, Goodyear or cemented. Some models use cemented construction. Positioning is more stylistic than artisanal. Check the construction of each model.
Philosophy
The Warby Parker of Italian shoes. Casati and Sebastio, Milan, 2013. Nice leather, casual-chic style, DTC prices. But variable construction - Blake here, cemented there. For style, it works. For construction, TLB Mallorca does better at the same price.
History
Enrico Casati and Jacopo Sebastio, two Milan friends, launched Velasca in 2013 with the Warby Parker pitch for shoes: Made in Italy at DTC prices, no middleman. Production in the Marche region, Italy's historic shoemaking area.
The style is casual-chic Milanese: loafers, boots, derbies, in pleasant Italian leathers. The issue: construction varies by model - Blake stitch on some, cemented on others, not always clear. On enthusiasts: 'surprising that Velasca opts for Blake in the same price range' as Goodyear welted brands.
Velasca doesn't pretend to be enthusiast forums - it's Italian DTC lifestyle, not enthusiast cordwaining. For style at accessible prices, it works. For construction, TLB Mallorca or Meermin do better at the same price.
