History

Six Singaporean friends passionate about classic shoes. A local market offering nothing between cheap and $2,000 European bespoke. Yeossal was born in 2016 from this simple frustration: why should hand-welted cost a fortune?

The story begins with trade. Yeossal started as a multi-brand retailer – Antonio Meccariello, TLB Mallorca, Oriental. The Singapore boutique-showroom allowed customers to touch what forums only showed in photos. Then came the pivot: the brand moved from distribution to production, partnering with the Xibao workshop in Shanghai.

Xibao is the Chu family. A Chinese workshop that also produces for Sons of Henrey and under its own brand, Oct. Tenth. The construction is serious: hand-sewn welt, lasting on a form, heels built layer by layer. In the waist, the hand stitching creates a fiddleback that connoisseurs immediately spot. On split-toe shoes, the apron is entirely hand-stitched.

Seven lasts are available, all named after Singaporean districts – Thomson, Ardmore, Tomlinson. The SG65, a soft square, is the most popular. Leathers come from everywhere: Horween in the United States, C.F. Stead in England, Weinheimer in Germany, Haas and Annonay in France, Bonaudo in Italy. MTO starts around $600.

The value for money is unanimously praised among classic shoe enthusiasts. The finish and hand-welted construction are compared to brands charging double. Customer service is described as patient and responsive, which remains rare in the segment. Reservations concern the fit: the lasts, designed for Asian feet with a higher instep, can confuse European feet. Finding the right size on the first try is not guaranteed.

The recurring debate concerns "Made in China." Yeossal plays total transparency – the workshop is named, methods are detailed. Some buyers remain reluctant on principle. Others see exactly what it is: honest Chinese craftsmanship, sold without artifice, at a price that doesn't insult intelligence.

Yeossal has since expanded its offer: custom shirts, high-waisted trousers, safari jackets, polos. Prices have remained remarkably stable since 2019. In a market that is constantly rising, this is almost an anomaly.
