Philosophy

American aluminum case manufacturer founded in 1938. Historic aluminum line made in California. Acquired by ACE Co. Ltd (Japan) in 2006. Non-aluminum ranges are produced in Asia.

History

Founded in 1938 by Erle P. Halliburton, the American mogul who also founded the oil services giant. His aluminum cases became iconic: NASA used them to bring back lunar samples during Apollo 11 in 1969, and James Bond carried them on screen. Historic headquarters were in Southern California. In 2006, the brand was acquired by ACE Co. Ltd, a Japanese luggage manufacturer. Today, aluminum cases are still made in California, but polycarbonate lines are produced in Asia, a friction point raised on FlyerTalk: 'They do great job at hiding country of origin.'
